Statement on 2017 fiscal year federal budget bill (May 4, 2017)

The 2017 Omnibus bill, passed by Congress today, includes strong funding for several federal research programs including the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative, Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, NIH, NSF, the Department of Energy's Office of Science and for student aid programs such as year-round Pell, TRIO and GEAR UP.

Michigan State University supports these final appropriations levels for FY17, especially the $100 million for the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, which ensures the project can stay on time and on budget. MSU is deeply appreciative of the House and Senate members of the Michigan Congressional delegation for their leadership and unwavering support for FRIB, as well as for the student aid and innovative research funding.
